1/19 Tournament Weekend: More Tournaments, More Ws

Another weekend, another set of debaters winning big. We saw a variety of competitions this weekend and, as always, we’re proud of all involved. Let’s see what happened!

SPRINGBOARD JANUARY CAPSTONE

The NSDA held a scrimmage-style WSD event. The Springboard events at 100% free so if you are looking for opportunities to practice, you (and your friends) should definitely sign up! The only undefeated team at the tournament was La Cueva’s Daniel Di Palma, Amandeep Prasankumar, and Linus Wang. Congratulations!

THE WILDCAT WINTER WHIRLWIND PLANO SWING

In the final round, Flower Mound Fire on the proposition debated Greenhill Onyx on the opposition. They debated the motion “TH prefers investment in public transportation infrastructure over investment in automobile infrastructure.” On a 3-0 decision, Flower Mound emerged victorious. Congratulations to Aditi Singh, Poorvi Kumar, and Jessica John.

14TH ANNUAL ALIEF HASTINGS SPEECH AND DEBATE TOURNAMENT

In Houston, there was a closeout in finals for Elkins. Congratulations to Charlize Lopez, Jaydev Moparthy, Irene John, Sam Sajo, Victoria Tran, Ashritha Akkaladevi, Dhanuj Paladugu, Daya Mathew, and Aryan Goel.

LAKE TRAVIS CAVALIER CLASSIC TFA

In Lake Travis, there was another closeout in finals. This time, Dripping Springs took the crown(s)! Congratulations to Zoey Parks, Liam Ianiro, Will McAdams, Colton De Los Santos, Trudy Lagarde, and Laurel Carley

CLEAR CREEK CLASSIC

In League City, we had yet another closeout. Congratulations to Clear Springs for taking the top two spots! Shout out to Braden Link, Aiden Estes, Hamilton Hurst, Rylan Smith, Katelynn Boggess, Kenadie Pugh, Sheena To, Valerie James, and Shahmeen Dhukka.

PCFL 3 AT COUNCIL ROCK NORTH

While there is not more than one round reported on Tabroom, a scrimmage was held in Pennsylvania. Shoutout to all the teams who put themselves out there. If you have any information you’d like for us to add to this article, let us know!

THE ADELANTE INTERNATIONAL WORLD SCHOOLS DEBATE TOURNAMENT

Last but not least, the Adelante International tournament was hosted in Miami, Florida. What was really awesome about this tournament is not that they have both a novice and varsity division (which we should do more of) but they ALSO had a Spanish-speaking division as well! We applaud their inclusivity and we hope all those involved had a wonderful time.

Varsity

In the final round, Grand Oaks on the proposition faced Christopher Columbus on the opposition. They debated the motion “This House, as the United States, would abandon the Monroe Doctrine”. On a 6-3 decision, Grand Oaks claimed the championship title! Congratulations to Chris Cartagena, Landon Coutee, Lakshmi Sirangi, and Grace Conner.

In the final round, Trinity Prep on the proposition debated Colorado on the opposition. They debated the motion “This House, as the United States, would abandon the Monroe Doctrine”. On a 3-0 decision, Colorado secured their victory. Congratulations to Ella Merwin Olk, Wendy Warner, and Caroline Gaghen!

In the final round Miami Beach Senior High on the proposition debated the Colorado/Columbus Alliance on the opposition. They debated the motion “Esta casa, representando los Estados Unidos, abandonaría la Doctrina Monroe”. On a 3-0 decision, Miami Beach Senior High emerged victorious. Congratulations to Megan Madhosingh, Melanie Toledo, Kamila Romero, Helena Soriano, and Maia Ottaggio!
