SunHee Simon
Founder & Curriculum Director
SunHee Simon graduated from Stanford University in 2019 (BA in African American History; MA in Sociology). Her debate accolades are many, ranging from being one of the first students to qualify to the Tournament of Champions in LD and Policy debate to representing the United States on Team USA to semi-finaling her freshman year of college at the CEDA Tournament in 2015. She has dedicated the past 8 years of her young career to coaching fantastic debaters who have reached accolades even more impressive than her own. This includes, but is not limited to, having several of her students on Team Texas as well as championing the Cal Invitational and TFA State. She is based at Coppell High School where she continues to coach, drill, laugh, and grow with her students every day.

Aditi Vikram
Instructor
Aditi is a senior at Greenhill School and hopes to study political science in college. She has competed in World Schools Debate for 4 years and is a 4x qualifier to TFA state. Her notable achievements include being ranked #2 nationally in worlds according to NSDA rankings, championing the NDCA tournament, and placing third at both Blake and Greenhill Fall Classic. Internationally, she placed 2nd at the Asian Online Debating Championship and the International Schools Debating Championship, 3rd at the Paris World Schools Debating Championship, and reached late outrounds at others. Outside of debate, she loves trying new foods with her friends and playing with her dog Twilight. She is super excited to help WOWI campers gain confidence in her favorite debate event!!

Arjun Patil
Instructor
Arjun is a senior at Flower Mound High School, the captain of his school's team, and member of Team Texas. During his 3 year career, he has achieved notable success including championing TFA State 2024, the Longhorn Classic, Isidore Newman, Plano West (2x), Jasper, and Grapevine (2x) while also top speaking, reaching semifinals at the TOC, quarterfinals at Berkeley, and semifinals at Greenhill and making out rounds at NSDA. He has also received recognition in Congress, Oratory, Informative, and Domestic Extemp placing 7th at UIL State in Congress, and quarterfinaling TFA in DX. In his 3 years of competition he qualified for TFA State (3x) in 4 events (WSD, Info, OO, DX), for NSDA in 2 events (WSD, Congress), for NIETOC (2x) in 3 events (Extemp, OO, Info), for the TOC in Worlds, and for UIL State in Congress.
Outside of debate, he enjoys watching pretty much any sitcom, listening to music, and hanging out with my friends. If he’s not competing you can probably find him trying new foods or drinking iced coffee! He is excited to work with new students and debaters at camp this summer! -
Effie Shen
Instructor
Effie was on the Coppell Speech and Debate Team for 4 years. While she started out in Public Forum, she transitioned to World Schools towards the end of Sophomore year and became ranked 53rd nationally according to the National Speech and Debate Association Rankings. She was a finalist at the 2023 Longhorn Classic at UT Austin, semifinalist at the inaugural Tournament of Champions for World Schools, semifinalist and 4th speaker at the 2023 Greenhill Fall Classic, and semifinalist and 7th speaker in World Schools at the 2023 Grapevine Classic. In addition to her time in World Schools, she also competed in the 2023-2024 International Public Policy Forum competition, with her team qualifying for the Elite Eight round held in New York. She's now an incoming second-year at the University of California, Irvine, and is looking forward to teaching her students about everything she knows and loves about debate!

Om Patel
Instructor
Om Patel has been on the Coppell Speech and Debate Team for 3 years where he became the captain of the World Schools program in his senior year. Throughout his career in World Schools, he achieved a national rank of 21 according to the National Speech and Debate Association Rankings. He was a semifinalist at the 2024 Tournament of Champions, finalist and 9th speaker at the 2023 UT Longhorn Classic, semifinalist and 8th speaker at the 2023 Grapevine Classic, and semifinalist at the 2023 Greenhill Fall Classic Tournament. Outside of debate, Om likes to spend time going to car shows and hang out with his friends. Om is looking forward to spending lots of time sharing his knowledge to people at camp this year to help them succeed in their debate careers.

Poorvi Kumar
Instructor
Poorvi is a senior at Flower Mound High School and has competed in World Schools for three years. During her time competing in the event, she has reached deep elims at multiple big tournaments including championing TFA State in 2024 (9th speaker), championing the Grapevine Classic in 2023, championing the Longhorn Classic in 2024 (4th Speaker) and making it to the semifinals of the inaugural WSD division at TOC. Additionally, Poorvi has been a member of Team Texas for two years now and has championed the Greenhill Fall Classic (5th Speaker) and made semis of both the Blake and Isidore Newman Tournaments. She ranks among the top 20 debaters nationally for the event and also competes in both Congressional Debate and International Extemporaneous Speaking. Aside from debate, Poorvi loves writing, shopping, hanging out with friends and going down YouTube rabbit holes. As a WOWI alum Poorvi is excited to be able to give back to the program and coach this year!

Sophia Ahmed
Instructor
Sophia Ahmed is a freshman at William and Mary. She competed in WSD since her freshman year of high school for Southlake Carroll. Some of the highlights include championing UT, semi-finaling state, quartering Nationals, as well as being the coach of the Southlake Middle School WSD team. One of her favorite things about this event is that every individual has a unique role and personality that they can express as they debate, and she is really looking forward to helping others discover what that role is as they prepare for the fall season. -
Shreyes Ram
Instructor
Shreyes has been an active WSD debater on the Coppell Debate team for the past 3 years. His competitive experience has led to receiving several accolades throughout the years including reaching out rounds at several prestigious tournaments such as Greenhill(along with a top 6 speaker award), UT Austin(along with a top 2 speaker award), TFA State, Bluebonnet(along with the top speaker award), Blake, Kandi King RR, and Jesuit as well as championing at Flower Mound. Outside of debate, Shreyes is an avid sports watcher, whether it's football, basketball, UFC, or cricket(which includes awful Collin Cowherd level takes), goes camping & hiking, and hangs out with his friends.

Srishthi Das
Instructor
Srishthi is a senior at Southlake Carroll. She has been involved in debate for five years and has competed in WSD for three years. During her time in Southlake, she has served as president and as the middle school WSD team coach. As a competitor, Srishthi’s notable achievements include reaching quarterfinals at NSDA Nationals, finals at the Longhorn Classic twice, championing her junior year, and 3rd at TFA State. Additionally, as a two-time Team Texas competitor, she co-championed Greenhill and Isidore. Srishthi has also achieved recognition via speaker awards, including 1st at UT and Hockaday, 2nd at Greenhill, and 3rd at Isidore. In her free time, Srishthi loves to get froyo with her friends and hang out with her brother. Srishthi has always loved helping her underclassman, and as a WOWI alum, she is beyond excited to be one of the instructors this year!

Irene John
Student Journalist
Irene is a senior at Elkins High School. This is her fourth year in debate, and she serves as her school’s WSD Captain as well as its Team Manager. Irene co-founded the first WSD program at her school in her freshman year, and has since gone on to win various local tournaments, as well as reaching elimination rounds in national and international tournaments. Some of her notable accomplishments include placing 3rd at TFA State and finishing as fourth speaker, as well as semifinaling the Bluebonnet International WSDC and the Churchill Classic, finishing as top speaker. Outside of debate, Irene is involved in various clubs, including moderating her district’s largest club (Book and Culture), Model UN, Student World Affairs Council, and her school’s newspaper. She is very interested in writing, having published her prose and winning national awards for her creative work. Irene is incredibly excited to work for WOWI this year!

Safiya Azam
Student Journalist
Safiya is a junior at Coppell High school and has been competing in World School’s since her freshman year. Some of her biggest accomplishments include second speaker at the Tournament of Champions and breaking to out rounds at the Berkeley Invitational and Longhorn Classic. When she isn’t debating in class she’s helping coach others in her schools debate academy. Outside of debate she’s incredibly passionate about the fine arts, winning various awards for her work, volunteering at art museums, and participating in national art honors society within her school. She’s also involved in her schools award winning newspaper program in which she writes, photographs, and designs. In her free time you can catch her spending her wallet at the local thrift, debriefing with friends, and working on her Op-Ed!
