12/8 Weekend: Louisiana, Texas, Washington, and California Give Us This Week’s WSD Wins

Another weekend, another set of great debaters sacrificing their free time for some big wins. This weekend we saw World Schools divisions in FOUR different states! Let’s deep dive into this weekend’s Ws. We also have a special shoutout for the DUDA High School Winter Championship that took place last week!

ISIDORE NEWMAN SCHOOL INVITATIONAL

In New Orleans, Louisiana, Texas Red faced off against the Newman Gators in the finals. They debated the motion: This House believes that gene-editing technology should be restricted to non-human organisms.

In a close 2-1 decision, Texas Red emerged victorious. Congratulations to Reyna Diamond, Srishthi Das, Colton De Los Santos and Julia Mickiewicz!

DRIPPING SPRINGS TFA NIETOC TIGER TUSSLE

In Dripping Springs, TX, Hendrickson debated Stephen F Austin in the finals. They debated the fun motion: This House supports Santa's elves seizing the means of toy production. On a 3-0 decision, Hendrickson claimed the championship title. Congratulations Maya Hay, Natalie Mathews, Ava Lambert, Hoan Nguyen, and Frances Morales-Davila!

CYPRESS FREEZE TFA NIETOC SWING AT JERSEY VILLAGE

In Houston, TX, Tomball debated against Kingwood in the finals. On a split (2-1) decision, Kingwood claimed the crown. Congratulations to Shelby Skaggs, Rebekah Phillips, Deni Edgar and Jaimeson Six!

DUDA HIGH SCHOOL & MIDDLE SCHOOL WINTER CHAMPIONSHIP

Last weekend, DUDA hosted its semester closing tournament. In the varsity final  round, Irma Rangel faced Law Magnet. They debated “This House supports the rise of unionization”. Irma Rangel claimed the championship title in the end. Congratulations to Katelyn Moss, Yajaira Flores, Maritza Maldonado Chavez, Emily Ortega, and Guadalupe Vazquez!

In the novice final round Irma Rangel debated Seagoville and claimed the victory in that division as well. Congratulations to Samantha Flores, Natalie Flores, and Esmeralda Campuzano!

This weekend, the middle school championship was hosted. In both divisions, Solar Preparatory School closed out BOTH advanced WSD and beginner WSD. What an amazing achievement! Congratulations to all of these scholars from Solar Prep.

AUBURN RIVERSIDE INVITATIONAL AND NIETOC QUALIFIER

In Washington, Auburn Senior scrimmaged in the open division. We are so happy to see these events pop up in other parts of the country. Despite not having an elimination round, we want to congratulate the undefeated team of Osiris Romero-Caldera, Lawand Muhsen, Isaac Gerstner, and Emily Helms! Great work!

THE SVUDL DOLORES HUERTA TOURNAMENT

The Dolores Huerta Tournament took place in San Jose, California. There are not results posted for this tournament but we love seeing another UDL (Urban Debate League) pursuing World Schools! We’re proud of all who competed and if you would like us to update result, feel free to reach out.

WOWI Shoutouts

Shout out to our two wonderful camp alum at Isidore Newman with Team Texas. Poorvi Kumar made it to the semifinals and Srishthi Das won the tournament! Congratulations to both debaters!
