It’s Official! World Schools Returns to the Tournament of Champions After 50+ Year Hiatus

In a newsletter sent out to coaches, the Tournament of Champions (TOC) Admin Team has officially decided to add World Schools Debate to the TOC. For those unfamiliar, the Tournament of Champions is a prestigious tournament where the best students in the country compete. Typically, students will qualify for the tournament by making it to elimination rounds at major TOC bid tournaments.

For World Schools, the top 3 teams from a school or international program will be invited to compete at the tournament in April.

To see the WSD section of the newsletter from the TOC Admin Team, continue reading below.

We look forward to hosting you in person April 20–22 for the 2024 JW Patterson Tournament of Champions! The tournament invitation and other pertinent details will be posted at toc.tabroom.com next month, with registration set to open on January 1.

The TOC is also proud to announce the addition of World Schools Debate! We recently convened a multinational committee of top WSD professionals to help us better understand and support the growing needs of the World Schools community.

Thus, for the first time in over half a century, the 2024 Tournament of Champions will offer World Schools Debate to the top three teams from each US school or international program. All WSD teams are also encouraged to participate in our 2023–2024 TOC Digital Speech & Debate Series, consisting of three online invitationals explained below. We look forward to sharing our progress with you, and thank all the dedicated members of our global WSD community!
