Auburn Wins the Washington State Tournament and Burbank Wins the Ryan Mills SVUDL Invitational

We had two tournaments in Washington and California this past weekend. Shoutout to the West coast for holding down the fort with great competition. We saw the Washington State tournament which included Worlds (!!!) and we also saw another great UDL event hosted in Silicon Valley. Let’s take a look at both tournaments:

Washington State Tournament

Another weekend, another STATE CHAMP. This past weekend, Washington hosted its State Tournament. We are so excited to see that Worlds was a division there! We hope other State tournaments add it to their offerings in future years. If you know of any other State tournaments offering World Schools, please shoot us a DM so we can shout them out!

In the final round, Auburn (proposition) faced Newport (opposition). They debated the motion: “This House believes that NATO has done more harm than good”. On a 3-0 decision, Auburn emerged victorious! Congratulations to Lawand Muhsen, Isaac Gerstner, Osiris Romero-Caldera, Emily Helms, and Annie Lee!

Ryan Mills SVUDL Invitational

Meanwhile, in sunny California, the Silicon Valley Urban Debate League had a great throwdown. In the final round, it was Burbank on the proposition versus Silver Creek on the opposition. Ultimately, Burbank emerged victorious. Fun fact: this is actually not “Burbank” officially — it is the West LA Violets team which will represent their region at the NSDA’s national tournament in June. We can’t wait to see what they do at Nats! Congratulations to Aayushi Garg. Soren Jensen, Vedant Khadiya, James Miller, and Edna Yeghnanyan!
